God's Abundant Mercy: A devotional to linger over

I’ve been a bookworm since the day I was born. How could I know such a thing? Simple: Because my mom said so. She loved to tell her friends I was born with a book in my hand.
And maybe she was right. After all, some of my best childhood memories revolve around books — combing through the shelves at my hometown library; spending all day tucked away in my room, lost in another world brought to life on the page; and even working as a student librarian during my high school years.
Books have always been a cherished friend to me, and that’s why this blogpost brings me special joy. Today, I am introducing you to a new favorite: God’s Abundant Mercy, written by my friend Lori Stanley Roeleveld.
I’ve had the privilege of knowing Lori for several years. She has been my writing coach, mentor, friend, and steady encourager through seasons when I doubted my calling and seasons when I found my footing again. Lori is the reason I had the confidence to finally finished my novel and have begun shopping it to agents and publishers.
I met Lori at the Blue Ridge Mountain Christian Writers Conference and was so impressed by her writing wisdom and kindness that when she offered a coaching program, I signed up. Since then, I’ve seen her speak truth with courage, offer grace with tenderness, and handle Scripture with deep reverence. I personally know she’s the real deal. So when she releases a new book, I pay attention, not just because I admire her, but because I trust the spiritual weight of her words.
This devotional is no exception.
God’s Abundant Mercy is a beautifully written exploration of what it means to live daily in the presence of our merciful and loving Heavenly Father. And Lori doesn’t treat mercy as a soft, sentimental idea. She treats it as Scripture does — as a steady, transformative expression of God’s character. Each chapter is rooted in the Word, shaped by real life, and written with the clarity of someone who has wrestled with these truths herself.
What I appreciate most is Lori’s ability to speak to her readers’ hearts and minds. She writes with the honesty of someone who has walked through hard things and the hope of someone who has seen God’s faithfulness up close. Her reflections invite you to slow down, breathe, and let the truth settle. Some entries comfort. Some challenge. All point you back to the God who meets us with compassion we could never earn and can never exhaust.
As I read through this devotional, I found myself pausing often to absorb the rich truths of God’s love, compassion, and abundant mercy. This is a book you’ll want to linger over. My encouragement to you is to sit with it and to journal your responses to the Holy Spirit’s stirrings. Once you’ve finished it, keep it near, because you’ll want to return to it again and again when you need to remember who God is and who you are in Him.
If you’re looking for a devotional that is biblically grounded, spiritually nourishing, and written with both courage and kindness, I wholeheartedly recommend God’s Abundant Mercy.
My prayer is that it blesses you as it has blessed me.
God’s Abundant Mercy is available through Amazon (http://bit.ly/4tGGqe9), Barnes & Noble, Christianbook, and even Walmart. I hope you’ll consider adding it to your quiet time practice, and if you do, I’d love to hear how God uses it in your life.
